Steven Ray Simmons, 66 of Morganton, NC passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 4, 2016 after a brief illness. He was born in Avery County, NC on July 20, 1950 and was the son of the late Earl Franklin Simmons and Esther Belle Dellinger Simmons. Steven was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved playing golf, fishing and traveling with his family. Steven was a member of The Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Toby Earl Simmons.
Steven is survived by his wife, Jane Hildebrand Simmons; children, Dedra S. Pasco and husband, Patrick, Toby Simmons and wife, Tori Fowler, and Ashley S. Ambrose and husband, Philip; grandchildren, Kelsey Price, Ragan Brown, Kamryn Pasco, and Toby “T.J.” Simmons, Jr.; brother, Phillip Simmons; sisters, Nina Lail and husband, Rex, Cheryl Simmons, Judy Reynolds and husband, Jim, and Paula Ball and husband, Scott; sixteen nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. Private graveside will be held on Friday in the Jehovah’s Witnesses Cemetery.
