Susie “Sue” Curtis Henson, 93 of Canton, NC passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home in Haywood County. She was born in Burke County on May 22, 1923 to the late Thomas and Johnsie Clark Curtis. She and her late husband, Ronald, served as missionaries to the Deaf in Monterey and Guadalajara, Mexico. Before their travels to Mexico, they ministered to the deaf and hard of hearing at Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. She loved and cared for children for many years. Sue was loved by many people and contributed much to their lives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ronald Myers Henson; brothers, John and James Curtis; sisters, Leona Roper, Lorena Clark, Billie Carswell and Opal Coffey.
She is survived by her children, Ronald M. Henson II and wife, Vickie of DeLand, FL, Rebecca Henson of Waynesville, NC, Ora Henson of Knoxville, TN, and Curtis Henson and wife, Robin of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Eric Henson and wife, Rebecca, Heather Dey and husband, Matthew, Aaron Ragan-Fore and wife, Jennifer, and Jesse Ragan; great-grandchildren, Elliana Dey and Alexa Dey; and a sister, Johnsie Nelson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 1 to 2 pm at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The service will be at 2:00pm at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Layne officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sue Henson Deaf Ministries at the Baptist International Mission, Inc., (BMI), P.O. Box 9, Harrison, TN 37341.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
