T. Max Ramsey, 88, of Morganton died at home Wednesday, October 1, 2008, following a short period of declining health. He was born on April 8, 1920 in Cleveland County and was a son of the late Lemuel E. and Ida Mae Winn Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was a U. S. Army veteran serving four years in Iceland, German, and England during World War II. He retired from the U. S. Post Office in 1980 and was a member of the Civitan Club for several years. As a faithful member of North Morganton United Methodist Church for about 65 years, Max held many positions in the church including church treasurer for many years, member of the building committee for the educational building, and treasurer of his Sunday School Class.In addition to his parents Max was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Guy, and L.E. Ramsey, Jr., and sisters, Hazel Ramsey Jones and twin sisters who died at birth.Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Annie Laura Moses Ramsey, of the home; a sister, Frances "Toots" Hardin; and a number of nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2008, at North Morganton United Methodist Church with the Reverends Tony Matthews and John Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the church.
