Thelma Beam King, 78, of Morganton, NC died Monday, June 27, 2011 at her home after a period of declining health. Born in Avery County, NC on May 4, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Jerome Beam and Bonnie Hughes Beam. Thelma was a faithful member of Zion Road Baptist Church. She was a loving, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt to all her family. She enjoyed working outside in her vegetable and flower garden. She especially enjoyed her sons’ singing and was a faithful supporter of their music ministry.Thelma is survived by her son, Mike King and wife, Judy, of Morganton; granddaughters, Marisa Piercy and husband, Micah, and Jessica King, both of Morganton; a grandson, Ron King and wife, Kelly, of Morganton; and great-grandchildren, Savannah and Luke Piercy, Cadence and Cole King.In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Owens King; sons, Dale, Roger, Garry, and Kenneth King; a brother, Charlie Beam; and a sister, Bessie Wise.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Micah Piercy officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
