Thelma Lequire Griffith

Thelma Lequire Griffith, 63, of Fish Hatchery Road, Morganton, NC died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at her residence. Born in Cherokee County, NC on November 23, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Clint Harvey Lequire and Mary Ethel Walsh Lequire. Thelma was a member of Mountain Grove United Methodist Church. Thelma loved the Lord and was strong in her faith. She loved traveling, flea markets, and camping, and she loved her family and grandchildren, and enjoyed taking her grandchildren with her. She retired from the City of Morganton after 33 years of service. Thelma was a former member of the Burke County Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary.Thelma is survived by her husband, S. J. Griffith of the home; children, Rhonda Petersen and husband, Chris, and Steve Jay Griffith and wife, Rebecca, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Gregory Griffith, Emily Petersen, Kendall Griffith, and Bryce Griffith; a brother, Charles Lequire and wife, Ella, of Euless, TX; and sisters, Mary Frances Suttles and husband Bobby, of Morganton, Martha Hughes and husband, Rocky, of Murphy, NC, Sue Pritchard of Morganton, Ruth Gurley of Connelly Springs, NC, and Brenda Wilson and husband, Joe, of Morganton.In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and James Lequire.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Mountain Grove United Methodist Church with Reverends Neal Brantley, Lloyd Harris, and Betty Henson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
