Thelma Swink Hudson

Thelma Swink Hudson, 77, of the Lutheran Home West, Hickory, NC, formerly of Old NC 18 South, Morganton, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory following a period of declining health. She was born December 25, 1927 in Gaston Co., NC, and was a daughter of the late William Lester Swink and Mabel Mayhew Swink. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.B. "Dick" Hudson; brothers, Phifer Swink and Robert Swink; sisters, Pearl Swink, Gladys Carswell, and Lattie Hunt; and a son-in-law, Charlie A. Lail. Thelma was a former employee of Morganton Hosiery Mill and Burke Mills. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Lutheran Home West for the wonderful care provided to Mrs. Hudson.

Thelma is survived by a son, Jerry Hudson and wife, Kathy, of Connelly Springs; a daughter, Shirley Lail of Connelly Springs; grandchildren, Mark Lail and wife, Cynthia, Curtis Lail and friend, Kim, Tammy Patton and husband, Richard, Blain Hudson and wife, Emily, Harold Hudson and wife, Jennifer; great grandchildren, Hayden Lail, Austin Sigmon, Derrick and Matthew Hicks, Melissa, David, and Anthony Patton, Dustin and Jacob Hudson, Katlin and Abbey Hudson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 17, 2005 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends Jerry Hudson, Blain Hudson, and Dustin Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Douglas Price officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour. At other times, the family will be the residence of Shirley Lail, 8751 Wards Gap Rd., Connelly Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Rev.
