Thelma Williams Kayga

Thelma Williams Kayga, 93, of Morganton, NC died Friday, July 13, 2012 following a period of declining health. Born September 24, 1918 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late James Alexander Williams and Rassy Cox Williams. She was a member of Mountain Grove United Methodist Church, and a retired employee of Western Carolina Center. Thelma loved working in her flower garden, watching hummingbirds, and reading.A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Thelma is survived by children, Janet Burnette and husband, Johnny, Kenneth S. Kayga and wife, Beatrice, and John E. Kayga, Jr. and wife, Brenda, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Rhonda Michael and husband Kevin, John Burnette and wife, Sandra, Tori Townsend and husband Richard, Connie Barrier and husband Eric, Sammy Kayga and Laurel Morris, and Courtney Crawley and husband Charlie; great-grandchildren, Reva Michael, Ethan Michael, Johnathan Burnette, Kaylee Burnette, Kendall Townsend, Conner Townsend, and Kolter Barrier; and a sister-in-law, Avis Williams of Morganton.In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Kayga; a brother, Jimmy Williams; and a sister, Janet Sisk.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Mountain Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Neil F. Brantley, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church fellowship hall.
