Theodore Roosevelt "Ted" Shook, 90, of Linwood NC died Monday, July 25, 2011 at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, NC. Born in Watauga County, NC on August 23, 1920, he was the son of the late Geter France Shook and Ollie Kansas Yarber Shook. He attended Watauga Baptist Church in Foscoe, NC.Ted was a U.S. Army Paratrooper during WWII. An avid hunter and fisherman who hunted big-game in the western states, he was in the Sportsman’s Hall of Fame for killing a record-size North American elk. After retiring from Broughton Hospital, he wrote a genealogy book entitled "Grandfather Community."
Ted is survived by his wife of 67 years, Agnes Preswood Shook of the home; children, Jerry Dean Shook and wife, Judy, of Lexington, Garry Theodore Shook and wife, Beth, of Newport, NC, and Judy Ann Langley and husband, Mike, of Lexington; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his son, Allen Shook; brothers, Percy, Randall, Jerry, Jack, and Lonnie Shook; and sisters, Florence Murphy, Velma Putnam, Juanita Walters, Peggy Hildebrand, Mary Church, and Imojean Taylor.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church with Mr. Ricky G. Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Charlotte Office, 222 South Church Street, Suite 336M, Charlotte, NC 28202. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
