Thomas “Harold” Smith

Thomas “Harold” Smith, 76 of the Enola Community of Morganton died January 16, 2018 following a period of declining health.

Harold was born November 24, 1941 in Burke County to Charles Geree Smith and Bessie Ellen Whisnant Smith. Harold retired from Drexel Heritage with over 45 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Harold enjoyed fishing with the grandchildren, spending time in his woodworking shop and watching a good western on television.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bettie Carswell and two brothers, Melvin and Steve Smith.

Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris Denton Smith; daughter, Laura Crawley and husband, Tracy; son, Richard Smith and wife, Rowena; grandchildren, Amber Smith, Chris Smith, Wilson Crawley and wife, Ashley, and Evan Crawley and wife, Janaye; great-grandsons, Thomas Fox and Ian Crawley. Mr. Smith is also survived by sisters, Geralene Hughes, Rebecca Norwood and Juanita Clark; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. A private family memorial service will follow.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Falling Creek Assisted Living in Hickory and Medi Home Health and Hospice of Taylorsville for their excellent care.
