Thomas M. "Tom" Hawks

Thomas M. “Tom” Hawks, 95 of Valdese, NC passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017. He was born in Patrick County, VA on November 20, 1921 and was the son of the late Elkanah Hawks and Elsie Mae Puckett Hawks. “Tom” was the oldest member of Enon Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and a greeter. He was in numerous committees. He was a member of the American Legion. “Tom” was a loving husband and father. He was a US Army Veteran serving in WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Dewey Hipps and Edward Walker; four brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn Bridges Hawks; children, David T. Hawks and wife, JoAnn of Winston-Salem and Sheila H. Walker of Valdese; sister, Icie Vass of Hillsville, VA; sisters-in-law, Reva Hawks and Martha Hawks; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2017 at Enon Baptist Church. The service will follow at the church at 3:00 p.m. with Reverends Gary Garner and Ernie Richards officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by NC National Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.  Memorial contributions may be made to Enon Baptist North American Missions, 2059 Enon Rd., Morganton, NC 28655
