Thomas Max Ray

Thomas Max Ray, 87, of Morganton passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021.  Born in Yancey County, NC on April 5, 1934, he was the son of the late George Dewey Ray, Sr. and Annie May Hensley Ray.  Thomas owned and operated Ray’s Dairy Farm at Lake James along with his father and brother.  He was a veteran of the US Army.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Betty Henline Ray; children, Clinton Ray (Pamela), Freida Ray Clark, Thomas D. Ray, Anthony Ray, and Leesa Ray McConnell; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Burke Memorial Park.  Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
