Tina Marie "Punkin" Powell Wright

Tina Marie "Punkin" Powell Wright, 35, went to be with the Lord at her residence on Saturday, July 22, 2006 following a lengthy illness. She was born in Duval County, FL on October 31, 1970 and was a daughter of the Marshall Lee and Sarah E. Powell, of Valdese. Tina was a graduate of Catawba Valley Community College and worked for many years as a substitute teacher with Burke County Schools. She was an avid decorator and scrapbooker and was a member of Valdese Church of God.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Jerry Wright, of the home; her daughters, Heather Wright and Brooklyn Wright, both of the home; her sister, Susan Powell Rector and her husband, Marty, and their sons, Rodney and Jody Rector, all of Connelly Springs; her maternal grandmother, Mary E. Winkler, of Morganton; and a host of other family and friends.

The funeral was held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Valdese Church of God with the Rev. Allen King officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family received friends an hour before the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heather and Brooklyn Wright Scholarship Fund, c/o Jerry Wright, 905 Powell Ave., Valdese, NC 29690. Sossoman Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
