Tommy D. McDaniel, 48, of Pine Ridge Avenue, Morganton, NC died Monday, March 29, 2010 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. Born in York Co., SC on August 29, 1961, he was the son of Jack and Jean McDaniel Willis of Chatham, VA. Tommy was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He loved to cook, write poetry, and draw. Tommy worked for many years as a cook at Shoneys. Before moving to Morganton, he was a former resident of Charlotte, NC.A loving husband, son, father, and grandfather, Tommy is survived by his wife, Deloris Stewart McDaniel; his parents; daughters, Brandy McDaniel of the home and Sharon Willis of Chatham, VA; a step-son, William Stewart and wife, Jessica, of Wingate, NC; grandchildren, Caleb Chapman, Alana Stewart, and James Crane; uncles, Ray McDaniel and family of Prattville, AL and Donald Willis and family of Atlanta, GA; a faithful canine companion, Penny; and a host of friends.The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Cline officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
