Tommy Garrison, 80, of Morganton passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 after a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on February 28, 1931, he was the son of the late Carl Thomas Garrison and Sadie Orders Garrison. Tommy was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he had served as an R.A. Leader, Deacon, and a Trustee. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. Under the G.I. Bill he trained at Wells and Seals Body Shop, and he spend his career as owner and operator of Carbon City Body Shop. Tommy was an avid sports fan, fisherman, and rabbit hunter.A loving husband and doting PawPaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tommy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faye Turner Garrison of the home; a son, Randal Garrison and wife, Sarah, of Morganton; a daughter, Janet Garrison of Morganton; grandchildren, Ben Garrison and fiancée, Christina Higgins, Brenna Call and husband, Josh, and Leah Garrison; great-grandchildren, Lyle Garrison, Grace Call, and Henry Call; a brother, David Garrison; sisters, Nancy Clark and Judy Stamey; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his brother, Ted Garrison, and sisters, Betty Mae Franklin and Jean Causby.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Danny Emory officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church prior to the funeral hour. Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church Building Fund, 1112 Hopewell Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
