Truman H. Brown

Truman H. Brown, Jr., 86, of Pine Ridge Drive, Connelly Springs, NC died Friday, July 10, 2009 at Valdese General Hospital. Born in New Castle, PA on May 29, 1923, he was the son of the late Truman H. Brown, Sr. and Margery Stickle Brown. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Dr. Betty I. Brown. Truman was a member of First United Methodist Church where he and his wife ushered the early service for many years.Before moving to Burke County thirty-five years ago, he was President of 3 Telephone Companies in Ohio. Truman earned a B.S. in Finance from U.N.C. Asheville. He retired from the Burke County School System as Finance Officer. While he worked for the school system he taught part-time at Western Piedmont Community College in the Business Department.Truman is survived by his wife, BettyVon Duyke Brown of the home.A cryptside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church Columbarium with Reverends Dr. Sydnor Thompson, III and Todd McCullough officiating. The family will receive friends in the family parlor following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Discretionary Fund, 200 N. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
