US Army Sergeant First Class (Ret) Billy Ramsey

US Army Sergeant First Class (Ret) Billy Ramsey, 75, of Morganton, NC went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Grace Hospital. Born on June 12, 1944, he was the son of the late Walter and Macie Ramsey. Billy was a member of McDowell Presbyterian Church. He was a decorated veteran of the US Army having served three tours in Vietnam, retiring after 22 years of service. Billy earned two Bronze Stars, one Purple Heart, an Army Commendation Medal, with Silver Oak Leaf.

Billy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Theresa Kay Carswell Ramsey; children, Tammy Newton (Randy), James Ramsey (Holly), Jamie Brittain (Angel), Mellanie Ramsey, (Adam Swingler); grandchildren, Chloe Newton, Joshua Brittain, Hannah Ramos, Abigail Ramos, Seth Brittain, Gavin Newton; brothers, Warren Ramsey, James Ramsey, Phillip Ramsey; sisters, Alda Tipton, Maxine Cosby.

In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his brothers, Gene Ramsey, Wayne Ramsey, Don Ramsey; sisters, Betty Ramsey and Arlene Ramsey.

The family will have a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday August 28, 2019 at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev Dennis Carswell officiating. Military honors provided by the US Army.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
