Vada Howard Walker

Vada Howard Walker, 58, of Burke Memorial Park Rd., Valdese, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 18, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 7, 1949 in Burke County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Ulan Howard and Ida Mae Mayfield Howard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, William Rex Walker; grandson, William Cole Walker; brother, Bobby Howard; and sister, Gladys Howard. She was a member of High Peak Baptist Church. Vada retired from Western Carolina Center after 28 years of service. She was working at Skilled Creations until declining health led to her retirement.Vada was a wonderful wife, mother, maw-maw, and sister, and left to cherish her memory are sons, Bill Walker and wife, Jennifer, of Valdese, and Thomas Walker and wife, Eve, of Morganton; grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsey, Isaac, Destanie, Haley, Savannah, and Nora Walker; and a sister, Rita Mullins of Morehead City, NC.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 21, 2007 at East Valdese Baptist Church with Rev. Brett Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour.
