Vaughn Isaacs, 90, of Glen Alpine, NC died peacefully at his residence on Thursday, June 27, 2013. Born in Watauga County, NC on August 8, 1922, he was the son of the late James Harley Isaacs and Nona Greer Isaacs. Vaughn was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was stationed in North Africa and Italy. During his service he received a Purple Heart. Vaughn was a very active member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees. He was also a volunteer with the Glen Alpine Fire Department.Vaughn is survived by his son, Jim Isaacs and his wife, Nan, of Marion, NC; a daughter, Barbara Black and her husband, John, of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, Meagan Isaacs, Amanda Guthrie and her husband, Jeremie, and Kerry Pope and her husband, David; great-grandchildren, Karson Guthrie, Emma Guthrie, Gracie Guthrie, and Lincoln Pope; brothers, Greer, Bill, and Bud Isaacs; and a sister, Francis Yelton.Vaughn’s wife of 60 years, Sue Pitts Isaacs, passed away two days following his death. In addition to his parents, Vaughn was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Carroll Isaacs; and three sisters, Eloise Woods, Mable Isaacs, and Adalee Stephens.A joint service for Mr. and Mrs. Isaacs will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church with the Reverends Barbara Mayo and Thomas Beall officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery with military honors for Mr. Isaacs provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends in the Life Enrichment Center at the church from 11:00 a.m. until noon prior to the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Glen Alpine United Methodist Church, P.O.
