Velma Marie Cooke Chester

Velma Marie Cooke Chester, 84, of Morganton, NC, passed away Friday, July 1, 2022.

Born in Burke County, NC on May 14, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Forrest Cooke and Bessie Bennett Cooke.  Velma was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.  It is our loss but heaven’s gain.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Kirk Chester (Trudy); daughter, Linda Beam; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Jeanette Berry.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Chester; five brothers; and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Brady Adkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
