Venita Roberts Baker

Venita Roberts Baker, 87, of Conley Rd., Morganton, NC went to her heavenly home, Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. She was born August 6, 1920 in Madison County, NC, and was a daughter of the late William Harrison Roberts and Molly Jane Price Roberts. Venita was a long time member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She was known to many as "Mama Baker".She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Clyde B. Baker of the home; a son, Howard J. Baker and wife, Louise; daughters, Wilma Woody and husband, Steve, and Betty Fowler and husband, Mike, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Jennifer West and husband, Jason, Steven Woody, Josh Fowler and wife, Stacey, and Alex Fowler; great grandsons, Jesse and Joseph West; and very special friends and neighbors, Betty Mull and Marie McCurry. Venita was also preceded in death by sisters, Dora Harp and Dorothy Goforth.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Dewey Thomas and Rev. Dr. J. D. Grant officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour.
