Vera Herndon Helms

Vera Herndon Helms, 89, of Valdese, NC died Monday, July 21, 2014. Born in Caswell County, NC on August 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Levi Edmon Herndon and Sally Bett Dameron Herndon. Vera was a member of United Baptist Church and a retired employee of Crestline Furniture. She enjoyed traveling and was a dedicated homemaker.

Mrs. Helms is survived by her son, Tommy “Fluff” Helms and his wife, Linda, of Glen Alpine; a daughter, Gail Pearson and her husband, Mike, of Valdese; grandchildren, Jason Helms, Barry Pearson, and Joey Pearson, great-grandchildren, Heath and Austin Pearson; and a special friend, Brenda Church.

In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Jirl Helms, and nine brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014 at United Baptist Church with Mr. Steve Ramsey and the Rev. Don Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral. At other times the family will be at her home.
