Verlin Eugene Chapman

Verlin Eugene Chapman, 65, of Morganton, NC went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.  Born in Burke County, NC on October 24, 1949, he was the son of the late Leonard Chapman and Joyce Carswell Chapman.  Verlin was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church.  He enjoyed mowing grass, made everyone laugh, and loved his family and grandchildren.

Verlin is survived by his wife, Mary Pitts Chapman of the home; a son, Roy Leonard Chapman and his girlfriend, Kelly, of Morganton; a daughter, Melissa Davis and her husband, Chuck, of Morganton; grandchildren, MM1 (SW) Tyler Davis USN and his wife, Lauren, of Saratoga, NY, and Lawson Davis, Tanner Chapman, Connor Chapman, and Gavin Chapman all of Morganton; a great-granddaughter, Emma Kate Davis; a sister, Jeanette Fisher and her husband, Vernon, of Morganton; many nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Missy.

In addition to his parents, Verlin was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Ray Chapman and Clifford Chapman.

The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 31, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Reverends Darvy Hensley and Larry Combs officiating.  Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  At other times the family will be at the home on Piercy Avenue.
