Verna Lee Cooper Deal

Verna Lee Cooper Deal, 88, of Morganton died Monday, February 15, 2016.  Born in Lincoln County, NC on May 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Paul Clifton Cooper and Lulu Mae Shidal Cooper.  Verna was a member of High Peak Baptist Church and retired from Drexel Knitting Mill.  She enjoyed doing crafts and vacationing in Cherokee where she loved to listen to bluegrass and country music.  She also enjoyed drinking coffee on her front porch while looking after her grandchildren.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Deal is survived by her daughter, Brenda Deal Roberts; a son, Robert “Bobby” Deal and his wife, Jo Anne; a son-in-law, Thomas Scronce; grandchildren, Jackie Huffman and her husband, Todd, Jennifer Lambert and her husband, Scott, and Dr. Jason Deal and his wife, Ashley; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Huffman, Bethany Lambert, and Kaylee Huffman; siblings, Ruth Radford and her husband, Don, Barbara Ann Norton and her husband, Charlie, and Gary Douglas Cooper and his wife, Jane; and a number of nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Connie Lee Deal Scronce; brothers, Clifford Eldridge Cooper, Darby Randolph Cooper, Paul Cooper, and Jackie Dean Cooper; and a sister, Mary Mozelle Cooper Evans.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 18, 2016 in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
