Vernie Walker Watson

Vernie Walker Watson, 75, of Hopewell Rd., Morganton, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Valdese General Hospital. She was born February 23, 1931 in Lincoln County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Charlie G. Richard and Mary Lou "Ada" Towery Richard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Ed Walker; brothers, Alexander, Mack, Howard, and Charles Richard; and sisters, Lula Reinhardt, Lola Richard, Polly Whisenant, and Mary Jane Tamburrie. Vernie was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She worked at Broughton Hospital and Grace Hospital as a nursing assistant. She was a devoted wife and mother.

Vernie is survived by her husband, Dewey M. Watson of the home; a son, Edward Walker of the home; and sisters, Lona Parham of South Hill, VA, and Lorine Shrum of Lincolnton, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Friday, January 26, 2007 at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Homer Murdock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 until 8:30 pm at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour.
