Violet Barlow Sherrill

Violet Barlow Sherrill, 94, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 Grace Heights. Born February 19, 1919 in Caldwell County, NC, she was a daughter of the late William Barlow and Louella Wallace Barlow. For over 55 years, Violet was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morganton where she participated in the Deaf Sunday School Class. She attended the North Carolina School for the Deaf, and was a retired employee of Alba Waldensian. Violet was an accomplished homemaker and seamstress.She is survived by children, Jean S. Proctor of Hickory, NC, Ray E. Sherrill, Jr. and wife, Michaelyn of Lake Wylie, SC, and Billy O. Sherrill and wife, Susan, of Valdese: grandchildren, Brian Metcalf and wife, Kelly of New Hill, NC, Delisse Metcalf Green and husband, Bill of Scottsdale, AZ, Dana Whisnant and husband, Scott of Morganton, Cindy Lupi and husband, John of Marble Hill, GA, Kirk Sherrill and wife, Kim of Charlotte, NC, and Lance Sherrill and wife, Mandy of Morganton; great grandchildren, Olivia Metcalf, James Green, Ashley Costner, Andrew Spake, Alex Lupi, Tyler Sherrill, Paige Sherrill and Devon Sherrill; and a brother, Harrison Barlow and wife, Sharon of Lenoir.In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Sherrill, Sr.; and six brothers and sisters.The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Grace Heights for the outstanding care given to Violet over the years.

Graveside services for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2013 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Tom Lineberger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Deaf Mission, P.O. Drawer 459, Morganton, NC 28680, or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
