Virgil "Jug" Barrier

Virgil “Jug” Barrier, 61, of Jonas Ridge, NC died Saturday, December 12, 2015.  Born in Mitchell County, NC on August 26, 1954, he was the son of the late Virgil Woodrow Barrier, Sr. and Wilma Margaret Barrier.  Jug was a member of Jonas Ridge United Methodist Church.  He was a former chief of the Jonas Ridge Fire Department, was the current president of the Burke County Search and Rescue, and was a member of the Burke County Rescue Squad.

Jug is survived by his wife, Sheila Paulette Barrier of the home; a daughter, Shelly Henry and her husband, Eric, of Greensboro, NC; a son, Trey Barrier and his wife, Brooke, of Jonas Ridge, NC; grandsons, Rusk Henry and Spencer Vance; and sisters, Pat Shell of Newland, NC, Glenda Thompson of Jonas Ridge, and Sandra Henderson of Jonas Ridge.

In addition to his parents, Jug was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Barrier.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Jonas Ridge United Methodist Church.  The memorial service will be held at the church at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Hart officiating.
