Virgil Stroud Prince, 98, a resident of Morganton, NC for 94 years, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 in Camden, SC. Born in Morganton on April 27, 1919, he was the son of the late William McKinley and Mary Burns Prince.
Mr. Prince was a graduate of Morganton High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Pacific theater of WWII. Following the war, Virgil worked for the Drexel and Henredon furniture companies. He started his own cabinetry and furniture-making business in the early 1970s. He meticulous attention to detail and dedication to quality were evident in the cabinets and furniture he produced. He was known for his easy-going disposition and ability to get along with others. Virgil was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir for more than 70 years.
Mr. Prince is survived by his daughter, Nancy Prince Tucker and husband, Glenn, of Camden; grandchildren, Lauren, Rebecca, Gibson, and Anna Tucker; great-grandchildren, Bess and Harriet Tucker; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Carrie Rader Prince; and all of his siblings.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Forest Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. A memorial service will be held at on Monday, January 29 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Camden.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center in Morganton and Kornegay Funeral Home in Camden are assisting the family with the arrangements.
