Virginia Baker Rhodes

Virginia Baker Rhodes, 82, of Morganton, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese, NC. Born December 16, 1929 in Sumter Co., SC, she was the daughter of the late David Oscar Baker and Hannah Elizabeth Hershman Baker. Virginia was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Morganton. She was a retired employee of Broughton Hospital, and volunteered for many years with Burke Hospice and the Good Samaritan Clinic. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.She is survived by a son, David Rhodes of Morganton; grandchildren, Hannah Marie Rhodes and Calvin Rhodes, both of Morganton; great-grandchild, Caden Rhodes; nephew, Steve Baker and wife, Trula; and a host of other extended family members.In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, LeFoy Baker; and brothers, Howard and Edward Baker.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
