Virginia "Betsy" Baker

Virginia "Betsy" Baker, 79, of Hidden Acres Rd. in Valdese died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Frye Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health. Born November 22, 1930 in Caldwell Co., she was a daughter of the late Elijah Roscoe Key and Lillie Pearl Greene Key. Betsy was a member of High Peak Baptist Church, and a retired employee of Drexel-Heritage Furnishings Company with fifteen years of service. She enjoyed working in her flower garden.A loving mother and grandmother, Betsy is survived by a son, Gary Wayne Baker and wife, Beverly Lynne of Hickory; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Baker of the home; grandchildren, Jeremy Allen Baker and wife, Iryna, Katherine Baker Wilson, Maria Lyn Baker, and Victoria Lea Baker, all of Hickory, and Jason Thomas Baker of the home; a great-granddaughter, Caroline Paige Wilson; and sisters, Paula Staten and husband, Ted of Lenoir, and Eula Hardy of High Point.In addition to her parents, Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, John Jackson Baker; three brothers and four sisters.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at High Peak Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Purcell officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at Virginia’s residence.
