Virginia Mae Jaynes Metcalf

Virginia Mae Jaynes Metcalf, 87, of Glen Alpine, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. She was born in Rutherford County, NC on February 15, 1929 and was the daughter of the late James Wright Jaynes and Blanche Meldona Jaynes. Virginia was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener and was on the Disaster Response Team for her church, responding to many disasters in eastern NC. She was a member of Mountain View #2 Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoy Metcalf; brothers, Kenneth, Howard, and David Jaynes; and step-son, Bruce Metcalf.
She is survived by a son, Daniel Lovelace and wife, Lillian of Myrtle Beach, SC; step-daughters, Pat Fox of Atlanta and Nancy Metcalf of Freehold, NJ; step-son, Danny Metcalf of Hickory; brothers, Jerry Jaynes of Union Mills, Bill Jaynes and Roy Jaynes both of Rutherfordton; sisters, Hazel Dodd of Union Mills, Vicky Cox of Morganton, Beverly Walker of Henderson and Ruby Winstead of Wilmington; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
