Virginia Reid Brittain

Virginia Reid Brittain, 85, of Valdese, NC died Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Born in Burke County, NC on August 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Mary Louise Reid. Virginia was a member of Jonas Ridge Baptist Church and was presently attending Drexel First Baptist Church. For many years she operated Burke Upholstery Shop which is currently operated by her son, Eddie Brittain. Virginia was an accomplished cook and quilter.Virginia is survived by her son, Eddie Brittain of Valdese; daughters, Margaret B. Self and her husband, Jerry, of Drexel and Esther B. Smith and her husband, Randy, of Valdese; grandchildren, Scott Self and companion, Tina Carter, Brett Self, Ronny Self and wife, Bobbie, Timothy Williams, Bryan Williams and companion, Leslie Roberts, and Cindy Throneburg and husband, Dash; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Williams, Shelbe Williams, Mindy Self, Kyle Self, Ivy Throneburg, Cooper Throneburg, and Paxton Throneburg.In addition to her mother, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Edward Brittain.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m, Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Drexel First Baptist Church with Rev. Tito Madrazo officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
