Vonda L. Hughes

Vonda L. Hughes, 73, of Morganton, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 7, 2022 after an extended illness. She was born on April 20, 1949 in Burke County to the late Henry Lister and Lillie Wilson Lister. Vonda retired from Grace Hospital after twenty-five years of service. She loved her family dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Robert Lail; son, James Randall “Randy” Lail; brothers, Kenneth Paul Lister, Ernest James Lister, and John Henry Lister; sister, Helen Crawford; granddaughter, Aliah Nicole Lail.

Vonda is survived by her husband, Donald L. Hughes; daughter, Joyce Collins (Tracey); son, Deran Lail (Trea); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bradshaw, Jacob Glenn Collins, Lauren Collins, Layni Rosenberger and Jacob Rosenberger; great-grandson, Justin Nicolas Lail-Avery; sister, Zola Guffey.

The family will receive friends from noon-1:00pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The service will begin at 1:00pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Tracey Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
