Walter "Sonny" Rawlings

Walter "Sonny" Rawlings, Jr., 68, of Washboard Lane, Morganton, NC died Monday, October 18, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Charles Co., MD on October 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Walter Rawlings, Sr. and Alice Smith Rawlings. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Sonny was stationed in Germany from 1960 to 1962. He enjoyed playing golf, billiards, and collecting coins.Sonny is survived by his wife, Nancy Lantzy Rawlings of the home; a son, Tim Rawlings of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Brittany and Jeffery Rawlings, both of Groton, CT; a brother, Billy Rawlings and wife, Patsy, of Mechanicsville, MD; and nephews, Todd Rawlings, Jay Rawlings, and Randy Posey.In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by a sister, Edna "Sissy" Posey.The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
