Wanda Lee Carswell passed into Heaven on July 27, 2024. The daughter of the late Vaxter Carswell and Ruby Lee Keller Carswell, Wanda worked diligently on the family farm and was a skilled gardener. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and always remembered when someone had been kind to her. She was a member of Walkers Chapel Baptist Church.

Wanda is survived by her brother, Bobby Carswell, and her sister, Faye Carswell Peeler. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Sylvia Frye Carswell, and her brother-in-law, Robert “Shorty” Peeler. Wanda had two nieces, Mandy Lane Carswell and Susan Leigh Haire and her husband, David, whom she loved very much. A hug from her only great nephew, Alex Haire, could always bring a smile to her face.

Wanda enjoyed spending time with her cousin, Hilda Keller York and husband, Johnny Robert York. They took Wanda on many happy excursions which brought her joy.

The family would like to thank the staff of UNC Blue Ridge Hospital in Morganton for the excellent care and compassionate treatment which they provided during the last days of Wanda’s life.

Finally, the family would especially like to thank Robert Lowman for being such a good friend to Wanda. Robert’s care and compassion for Wanda made her last years much more enjoyable than they would have otherwise been. The family will be forever grateful.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2024 at Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Rendell Hipps officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
