William “Alvin” Roper, 87, of Morganton, NC died Monday, December 7, 2015. Born September 10, 1928 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late John William Roper and Ethel Puckett Roper. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
A devoted father and grandfather, Alvin is survived by sons, Kenneth Ray Roper and wife, Rachel, and Carlos Joe Roper, all of Morganton; a daughter, Janet Davis and husband, Randy of Morganton; grandsons, Richie Ray Roper of Troutman, NC, and Will Davis of Morganton; great-granddaughters, Macy and Morgan Roper; step-grandchildren, Angie Clark and Chris Elmore; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie Roper of Morganton.
In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Marie” Bradshaw Roper; and brothers, Glenn and Ned Roper.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 1206 Salem Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
