William "Bill" Hubbs, 75, of Timber Court, Morganton, NC, died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at his residence. Born in Knox County, TN, he was the son of the late Sylvester Hubbs and Marie Hubbs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Jack, and Ray Hubbs. Bill was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he held a number of positions and was currently an active deacon. He was a retired employee of Nabisco. A former member of the Morganton Optimist, Bill had served as a past Lt. Governor.He is survived by his wife, Mickey Hubbs of the home; a son, William "Billy" Hubbs, Jr. and fiancé Carey Bernard, of Morganton; a daughter, Claudia Morgan and husband, Howard, of Morganton; a brother, Wayne Hubbs of Maryville, TN; a sister, Marie Smith of Kingston, TN; and grandsons, Ryan Morgan and wife, Sarah, and Kyle Morgan, all of Morganton.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 19, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites to be conducted by Valdese American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour.
