William "Bill? O?Dell

William "Bill? O?Dell, 68, of Valdese, NC went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 25, 2011. Born in Torrington, CT on June 28, 1943, he was the son of the late Howard William O?Dell, Jr. and Marie Winhorst O?Dell. Bill served as an MP in Japan for the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked as a police officer in Miami and Gainesville, FL for 24 years. He later moved to North Carolina and worked for Southern Devices and the Burke County Sheriff?s Department, and he finally retired from Continental Teves. Bill was a member of United Baptist Church.A loving husband, father, and brother is survived by his wife of 17 years, Patricia Ann Frost O?Dell of the home; sons, Scott O?Dell of Connecticut, Ryan O?Dell of Morganton, Jason O?Dell of Marion, Tommy Lowdermilk of Morganton, Timmy Lowdermilk of Morganton, and Tony Lowdermilk of Morganton; daughters, Heather O?Dell of Charlotte, NC and Kerri O?Dell of Goldsboro, NC; granddaughters, Miranda and Amanda; and a brother, Howard W. O?Dell of Connecticut.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011 at United Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Avery Owenby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and Caldwell Veterans Group. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
