William "Bill" Smith

William "Bill" Smith, 67, of Morganton died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born in Burke County on March 21, 1943 and was the son of Herbert Eugene Smith and Florence Buchanan Smith. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Charlie Mae Saulman Smith, and by an infant son, Michael E. Smith. He was a U. S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam conflict and was raised in the Baptist faith. Bill was a retired employee of Drexel-Heritage Furnishings.Surviving are his son, Anthony Smith and wife, Cynthia; sisters, Ella Mae Mull and husband, George, and Gale Eller; an uncle, Nollie Smith; brother-in-law, Charles Saulman and wife, Helen; all of Morganton; and nephews, Clint Mull and Dustin Eller.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rv. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Table Rock Detachment #1197 of the Marine Corps League.
