William Edward Carswell, 70, of Watershed Road, Morganton, NC, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 18, 2005 at his residence. Born August 8, 1935 in Burke County, he was a son of the late Charlie Montgomery Carswell and Carrie Chapman Carswell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bertie Causby. After retiring from truck driving, William worked as a timber-man. He loved working in the outdoors. Mr. Carswell was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and attended Friendly Freewill Baptist Church.
William is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Willeskie H. Carswell of the home; children, Charles William Carswell and wife, Levonda, of Morganton, Joyce C. Short and husband, Gayle, of Morganton, Reba Carswell of Morganton; two brothers, Claude Carswell and Ellis Carswell, both of Morganton; sisters, Lula Green of Morganton, Sue Penland of Morganton, Beatrice Shephard of Hildebran, Florence Carswell of Morganton; grandchildren, Charles Matthew Carswell, Kyle W. Carswell, Seth Tyler Carswell, Calvin Daniel Metcalf, Brianna Nicole Metcalf, Paul Lowman, Joshua Lowman, Joseph Hardin; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Carswell and Logan Charles Lowman.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Friendly Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in Carswell Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30- until 8:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mr. William Carswell on Watershed Road.
