William Hardie Walker, 82 of Glendale St., Morganton, NC died Saturday, April 24, 2010 at his residence. Born June 27, 1927 in Burke County, NC, he was a son of the late Lois Walker McNeely. Mr. Walker was a career U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. For many years following his retirement from the Navy, he enjoyed driving a taxi in Morganton. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Ledford and brothers, Ira and Marvin Walker.Surviving are his wife, Lillian "Patsy" Brittain Walker of the home; a step-son, Thomas T. Staver and his wife, Lavone of Morganton; step-daughters and their husbands, Mona and Donald Odom and Connie and Bobby Denton all of Morganton; a step-grandson, Stoney Staver and his wife Katherine; a step-great grandson, Benjamin T. Staver; and a niece, Diane Walker of Morganton.At the present time no services are planned. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
