William L. Grady, 84, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 following a period of declining health. He was born in Rutherford County on September 29, 1926 and was a son of the late James A. and Bessie Mae Roberts Grady. Mr. Grady served in both the U. S. Army and the U. S. Air Force and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5362, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 43, and the Cooties. Mr. Grady was of the Baptist faith and was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, caring for his lawn, and riding motorcycles.Surviving are his wife, Catherine Arney Grady of the home; daughters, Billie Renee Isbel and Janet Flynn both of Morganton, and Michelle Briggs of Hickory; a brother, Jimmy Grady, of Morganton; and four grandchildren, Elijah and Gabriel Flynn, Porche Briggs, and Alayna Isbel.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas A. and Robert Grady, and by sisters, Nora Honeycutt and Sue Tallent.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the North Carolina National Guard ceremonial team. Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center is assisting with arrangements.
