William R. Fensterer, 91, of Morganton, NC, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024.

Born in Garden City, NY on March 24, 1932, he was the son of the late William Fensterer and Hazel Stearns Fensterer. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Swain Fensterer.

William was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served on the USS Wisconsin. He was a Mason for 50 years and owned and operated Pyatt Heating and Air in Marion until his retirement in 2000. Bill was a family-oriented man who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed playing golf with his loving wife, gardening, and collecting and restoring antique cars.

William is survived by his children, Cheryl Byrnes (Randy), Melissa Stepp (Mike), Bill Fensterer (Barbara), and Eric Fensterer; grandchildren, Connor Byrnes, Lilly Byrnes, Erika Poarch, Ryan Poarch, Sara Chester (Josh), Matthew Fensterer (Amanda), Mae Fensterer (fiancée, Spencer Davis), Kera Hart (Dillion), and Emily Fensterer; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Kenny Fensterer (Delores).

The family will receive friends from 4pm until 5pm, Saturday, May 4, 2024 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall. A memorial service will follow at 5pm in the church with Father Gary Butterworth officiating. Military honors will be provided by the US Navy and Masonic rites will be provided by the Catawba Valley Masonic Lodge #217.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
