William Scott Buff, Jr., 77, of High Peak Rd., Valdese, NC died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at his residence. Born in Burke County, NC on October 21, 1933, he was a son of the late William Scott Buff and Ethel Irene Cooper Buff. He was a Korean War Navy veteran and was a retired member of the North Carolina National Guard. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morganton. He was always active in every aspect of church life including serving as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Church Treasurer. He was a Lifetime Member of the Morganton Optimist Club having served as President and Treasurer and was a past District Lieutenant Governor for Optimist International. For many years, Mr. Buff was owner and operator of A & B T.V.\ Curtis Mathes on S. Sterling St. in Morganton. Bill was an avid reader and loved listening to jazz and gospel music. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Eloise Buff Dellinger and Irene Buff Good.Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan Powell Buff of the home; daughters, Lisa Ann Buff Franklin and husband, Jerry of Valdese and Susan Buff Masefield and husband, Chuck of Rutherford College; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Joanne Franklin; a step grandson, John Alexander Masefield; sisters, Darese Buff Robinson of Valdese and Gaynelle Buff McNeely of Spartanburg, SC; and a number of nephews and nieces.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Thursday at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour.
