Committal
William T. Wall, 97, of Morganton passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Autumn Care. Born in Burke County, on April 1, 1921, he was a son of the late Samuel McDowell Wall and Jessie Whisnant Wall. He was a member of St. Mary’s – St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where he was currently the oldest member. Bill was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II. He was a paratrooper stationed in the Pacific earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was active in the Oak Hill Ruritan Club where he previously served as President. He was also a member of Chapter 43 of the D.A.V. where he was past commander. He was very active in the Burke County Democratic party. Bill retired from Drexel Heritage with 43 plus years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vurmell Ingle Wall; brother, Harry Wall; sister, Margaret Gaule.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara W. Erwin (Sam) of Morganton; brother, Le Roy Wall (Barbara) of Morganton.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm-3:00pm, Monday, February 4, 2019 in the Parish Hall of St. Mary’s-St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. The service will follow in the church at 3:00pm with Father Jim Dahlin officiating. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard. Entombment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s-St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church or Chapter 43, D.A.V.
