William Wesley Pless, 86, of Morganton died Monday, March 12, 2018. Born in Burke County, NC on September 18, 1931, he was the son of the late Joseph Willard Pless and Sarah Annie Causby Pless. Mr. Pless was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a longtime member of Summit Community Church (formerly Calvary Baptist Church). He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will truly be missed. He enjoyed working his farm land and being at home with his family.
William is survived by his wife of 61 years, Relda Barnette Pless of the home; a son, James William Pless and wife, Dawn, of Morganton; a daughter, Janice Pless Hollifield and husband, Tracy, of Belmont, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Ward Pless, Joseph William Pless, Taylor Hollifield, Reagan Hollifield, and Spencer Hollifield; and a sister, Clara Helen Parris of Morganton.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by brothers, Robert J. Pless, Phifer E. Pless, and Carl P. Pless; and a sister, Mary Katherine Pless.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Mike Chandler and Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. At other times the family will be at the home.
