Our beloved mother and grandmother, Wilma Baker Woody, 75, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with her Savior on Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Born in Madison County, NC on August 27, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Boyce Baker and Venita Roberts Baker. Wilma graduated from Glen Alpine High School and later received her associate’s degree from Western Piedmont Community College.
Wilma was married to the late Frank Steven Woody for 53 years and had two children, Jennifer and Steven; and four beloved grandchildren, Jesse, Joseph, Jonas, and Julia, who lovingly referred to her as Mamaw. Wilma loved nothing more than a visit from her children and grandchildren, and family gatherings with her siblings. She was a long-time member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school secretary and Awana teacher. She dearly loved her family and treasured her church family. Wilma was a faithful employee of Burke Industrial Supply for 32 years. She had a special place in her heart for dogs, and Shorty was her latest canine companion who loved to snuggle under a blanket beside her.
Wilma is survived by her children, Jennifer West (Jason) and Steven Woody; grandchildren, Jesse West (Laura), Joseph West (fiancée, Morgan), Jonas West, and Julia West; brother, Howard Baker (Louise); and sister, Betty Fowler (Mike).
In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Steven Woody.
She will always be remembered for her positive attitude and her quiet, gentle spirit.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Dr. David Mills and Rev. Keith Burkhart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends for Animals - Humane Society of Burke County (burkecountyfriends4animals.org).
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
