Wilma P. Smith

Wilma P. Smith, 72, of Pine Dr. in Morganton died Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte following a period of declining health. She was born March 24, 1938 in Burke County, and was a daughter of the late Howard and Florence Chester Penley. Wilma was a loving and caring person to everyone she met, and devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.She is survived by daughters, Kathy Smith and life-long friend, Frank Cooper, and Teresa Smith, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Amy Smith, Misty Smith Garland and husband, Ritchie, Natasha Moore, and Briana Moore; great-grandchildren, Diamond Garland and Noah Smith; Kathy and Teresa’s father, Roy Smith of Morganton; brothers, Lester Penley of Valdese; and sisters, Irene Burns and husband, Frank of Newton and Wanda Wellman of MorgantonIn addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her son, Mickey Roy Smith; brothers, William and Vester Penley; and by sisters, Mable Brookshire and Delores Penley.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Rice and Rev. Michael Vanderburg officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. At other times the family will be at Teresa Smith’s home, on Pine Drive.
