Wilma Wise Jarrett

Wilma Wise Jarrett, 81, of Morganton, NC died Saturday, September 21, 2013. Born March 26, 1932 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Malcom Wise and Naomi Dellinger Wise Hefernan. Wilma was a member of Asheville Street Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Autumn Care of Drexel where Wilma worked as an activity director. She had volunteered for the past 15 years at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center with the Foster Grandparents Program. In 2012, Wilma was nominated for the Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service for her devotion to the Foster Grandparent Program.Wilma is survived by her gentleman friend, Ray Burns of Drexel; sons, Michael Jarrett and wife, Terri, and Kirby Jarrett and wife, Susan, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Kurt Jarrett of Asheville, NC and Christy Fulbright of Longview, NC; a great-granddaughter, Summer Fulbright; brothers, Forrest Wise of McDowell County, and Jimmy Hefernan of Glen Alpine, NC; and an adopted foster son, Kevin of JIRDC.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Edward Wise, Geraldean Wise Lamb, and Johnny Wise.A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Asheville Street Baptist Church with Rev. Douglas Goforth officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
