Finley Yates Berry, 81, of Morganton passed away peacefully, Saturday November 3, 2018, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Berry passed away at his residence with Kathy, Scott, and Heidi by his side.
Mr. Berry was born in Burke County on October 5, 1937. He was the son of the late Forest H. Berry, Sr. and Julia Yates Berry of Connelly Springs. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Berry Mast.
Mr. Berry was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Berry retired from Piedmont Natural Gas Company where he held the position of District Manager. He was a member of Mt. Harmony Methodist Church. Mr. Berry was a former member of the Morganton Rotary Club, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow distinction. He was a former member of Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club, past board member of the Burke County United Way, and former member of the Morganton Elks Lodge and of the Western Piedmont Home Builders Association.
Mr. Berry is survived by his wife, Kathy R. Berry of the home; son and daughter-in-law, T. Scott Carico and Heidi Morgan Carico of Morganton; brother, Forest H. Berry, Jr. of Valdese; and two nieces and one nephew.
As Mr. Berry desired there will be no formal funeral service. Private entombment will be at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Those wishing to pay respect to the family may visit with them at the residence.
