Zeb Baird Lowdermilk

Zeb Baird Lowdermilk, 83, of Nebo, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 17, 2010 at McDowell Hospital. Born in Burke County, NC on October 6, 1927, he was the son of the late John A. Lowdermilk and Marietta Baird Lowdermilk. Zeb was a member of Fairview Freewill Baptist Church. He was a retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer and a veteran of WWII and Korea. Zeb was also a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service.A loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, Zeb is survived by his daughter, Susan Icard and husband, Ken, of Nebo; sons, Don Lowdermilk and wife, Mary Ellen, of Schertz, TX and D. Scott Lowdermilk and wife, Denise, of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Amanda Powell and husband, Chuck, Ian Lowdermilk, Melissa Dorow, and Jessica McDonald; great-grandchildren, Justin Powell, Jordan Powell, and Kara Dorow; a brother, John C. Lowdermilk of Valdese, NC; and sisters, Norma Jackson of Lake Wylie, SC, Bernice Deaton of Ellerbe, NC, and Jacksie Helms of Concord, NC.In addition to his parents, Zeb was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mae McNeely Lowdermilk.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 20, 2010 at Fairview Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Forbes and Harold Webb officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in McDowell Memorial Park.
